Described by George Bernard Shaw as heaven on earth and referred to as the Pearl of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik is magnificent. Situated on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, it boasts a captivating Old Town with excellent restaurants and delightful shops. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site: a well-deserved accolade as countless medieval buildings including churches, monasteries, palaces and houses vie for attention. Sightseers will enjoy walking tours along the well-preserved stone city walls, a new cable car (opening June 2010) which climbs to the top of Mount Srd promising great views over the city from its 405m vantage point, the Lapad peninsula, and the numerous islands dotted along the coast.

Dubrovnik Old Town

Encircled by ancient city walls, Dubrovnik’s stunning Old Town with its cobbled streets and narrow stepped alleyways boasts an 18th century Cathedral, a 14th century Dominican Monastery and the handsome Gothic Renaissance Rector’s Palace, home to the Cultural Historical Museum. There are excellent markets and sophisticated boutiques plus a multitude of dining and nightlife opportunities especially around the pedestrian thoroughfare; the Placa promenade or Stradun. During July and August, the world-renown Dubrovnik Summer Festival boasts a fantastic programme of music and theatre.
