Explore Tenerife

An island of predictably balmy weather and incredible geographic contrasts, Tenerife likes to surprise. Sandy beaches and beautiful resorts along the coastline guard a spectacular interior of dramatic volcanic scenery and authentic villages. Whatever you're looking for in a holiday, Tenerife will deliver.

From the outset, you'll find that Tenerife is an island with many faces. The largest of the Canary Islands off the African coastline, the dependably mild to warm climate holds the appeal for many. Add on bountiful Blue Flag beaches, the buzz of the Canarian spirit, and a choice of high-end hotels and resorts that are ideal for either adults, families or both Tenerife is a place that makes holidaying easy. But there is more to this island than beach life alone. Mount Teide is Tenerife's volcano and the highest peak in Spain. Catch a cable car to the top for far-reaching views over the Canaries, take your pick of hiking trails set amid almost unearthly landscapes, and visit tucked away villages filled with traditional charm.

You'll have your pick of places to stay on this bejewelled isle. Five star resorts with all of life's luxuries can be discovered in abundance, many with direct access to private beaches and pristine ocean views. Plentiful resorts with spas and access to golf courses are perfect for adult-only holidays, while others with kids clubs and a range of activities are ideal for family fun. For those who want to venture away from the beaches, immense cliff top resorts and boutique boltholes await.

Beach time is hard to resist in Tenerife, whether you want to lounge and relax, or embark on one of the many water sports available on tap. The beach towns themselves are full of life, with plentiful shopping, vibrant bars and enchanting restaurants ready to be explored. Each day can be a culinary adventure in Tenerife, where international flavours meld with Spanish and African influenced Canarian cuisine. Tapas with a twist, expect spicy yet fragrant sauces, and plenty of the freshest fish and seafood sourced from local waters. In Tenerife, you could easily find yourself in a wonderful neighbourhood eatery one evening, and dining at a Michelin star establishment the next. Away from the much-loved resort towns, embrace the spirit of discovery on road trips in the sparse south, embark on boat trips to neighbouring islands, and visit adventure parks for days filled with family laughter.

When to visit
The weather in Tenerife gives it year-round appeal. While temperatures regularly hit at least 29 degrees Celsius during the summer, they rarely drop below 17 degrees Celsius in winter.

You may also wish to plan your holiday to coincide with (or avoid) the vibrant festivals and carnivals that are held each year. Popular events include the Tenerife Carnival in February, Canaries Folk Fest in March and Tenerife Walking Festival in May. For more information and inspiration view our Events in Tenerife blog post.
