General Information Ibiza is a fairly small island just 45km long by 25km wide and is the nearest Balearic Island to mainland Spain. Thanks to its hilly terrain the island offers some magnificent scenery with towering cliffs and the countryside, particularly in the north, is a rural patchwork of groves of almonds, olives and figs and dense pine forests. The entire coastline is made up of stunning cove beaches many of which are deserted even in high season. You really need your own transport to reach the best spots although theres a good bus service around the island and local boats serve various destinations along the coast. San Antonio is of course famed for its nightlife and celebrity party-goers, but you dont have to be a clubber to enjoy this fabulous island. And although Ibiza Town, the capital and main port, does boast a few world-class clubs, it manages to retain the air of a 1950s Spanish provincial borough. The old part of Ibiza Town (Dalt Vila) within the ancient walls is a UNESCO world heritage site where restaurants and cafes abound as well as some worthwhile museums and a Cathedral that has been a place of worship for more than 2000 years. As well as the waterfront area, you should explore Placa de Vila and Sa Carrossa for the better (and pricier) restaurants serving international menus alongside the local cuisine which is traditionally Catalonian in style with its combinations of sweet and savoury, plus specialist vegetable dishes and tasty soups. Santa Eulalia in the northeast is the only other real town although up in the hills there are many tiny hamlets boasting pretty whitewashed village churches and an atmospheric local bar or two!
There are numerous long sandy beaches on Formentera. The most famous is Illetas although at Playa de Migjorn the fine white sands and turquoise waters extend for more than 5km. It is possible to drive around the island in a hire car, but really the best way to discover Formentera is by bike. Formentera does not have an airport so guests fly directly to Ibiza and then take the short ferry crossing from Ibiza Town to La Savina on Formentera. Two centre holidays combining a few nights on Ibiza with a relaxing break on Formentera can easily be arranged. Please contact our reservations team for details. |

Formentera, just over 12 miles south of Ibiza Town is the smallest of the
inhabited Balearic Islands. With a population of only 6,000, it is actually 2 small islets joined together by a
narrow sandy isthmus and is just 20km long from east to west. The islands main
income is derived from tourism with visitors taking advantage of some of Spains
longest, whitest and least crowded beaches. The island has a capital, Sant
Francesc Xavier, a few kilometres inland from the port at La Savina, but the
capital is just something of a crossroads with a shopping centre plus other
amenities like a pharmacy and banks.
Ibiza and Formentera boast mild climates with so much continuous sunshine that rainy days
are considered a luxury!
