Located just off the North West coast of Africa the windy island of Fuerteventura is the perfect holiday destination for beach lovers. At the very north of the island is the town of Corralejo you will some of nature’s finest work in acres of soft white sand which over time has formed dunes up to 50 meters high. There are wonderful places to visit and enjoy and they lead gently down to the beach which makes for the perfect place to cool off. These dunes form part of the Corralejo Natural Park which is a must visit on your Fuerteventura holiday. The area stretches for around 11 kilometres and a various spots on the beach you will find sun beds, sun shades, toilets as well as areas for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Opposite Corralejo and just a short ten minute ferry ride, is the Isle of Lobos Nature Reserve. This quaint island is the perfect tranquil escape and with a wide variety of plants and animal species native to the area it is a great place to enjoy this wonderful biosphere. Sit calmly and whilst taking in your surroundings you may see a few of the rare indigenous birds that live here.
The small island boasts around 13 kilometres of coastline where you can walk, explore and relax whilst looking back across to Fuerteventura or on a clear day, across to Lanzarote. For those looking to swim Lobos Bay offers calmer waters.
Visible from almost any point in the north of the island is Mount Tindaya. Here you can find the Mount Tindaya Natural Monument which is a carved space inside of the mountain by Spanish sculpture Eduardo Chillida. The interior of this project is one of the largest caverns ever to be constructed underground.
