Where to go on holiday in March

Molly Thompson

Life feels a little brighter in March, spring has sprung and long evenings with luscious blue skies are fast approaching. While this sunshine is upon us, let yourself be whisked away to luxury destinations. Here are our favourite March holidays.

See our where to go, when guide for destination recommendations throughout the year.

Florence

Other than Rome, Italy also boasts plenty of gorgeous cities to explore at this time of year. Florence is beautiful during March and similarly will be less busy than the peak summer months. Italy during March celebrates Christian holidays including Lent. March also promises International Women’s Day and Fuori di Taste which is a 3-day food festival. The city also celebrates Florentine new year on the 25th also known as ‘Feast of the Annunciation’ so whatever time of the month you visit there’s plenty of things going on.

Villa Cora

Superbly located in a tranquil setting amidst plane tree woods in the Oltrarno area a few steps from the Boboli Gardens this splendid 19th century villa has recently been restored to encapsulate its former glories.

Hotel Brunelleschi

Brunelleschi Hotel is a delightful and popular hotel ideally located in the very heart of historic Florence, just steps away from the Brunelleschi Cathedral in Piazza del Duomo and a short stroll from the Uffizi Gallery.

Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel

Set in the Tuscan hills, overlooking Florence which is 7km away and originally built as a monastery in the 15th century, Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel, has been lovingly restored to provide a luxurious and stylish space for guests to enjoy.

Sri Lanka If Bali and Thailand are a step too far, why not spend spring in Sri Lanka, and combine silky sands and Indian Ocean with iconic sightseeing: wild elephants and a balloon flight over Sigiriya anyone?  The Maha Monsoon might trouble the north-eastern coast but the western beaches stay blissfully sunny. This jewel of an island demands to be fully explored.

Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort

Found on a stretch of beach with gloriously fine sand, amidst many acres of established, verdant gardens, and with stunning views of the shimmering Indian Ocean.

Anantara Kalutara Resort

Occupying a pretty peninsula next to a lagoon and close to the traditional Sri Lankan city of Kalutara, Anantara Kalutara offers authenticity in a verdant tropical hideaway.

Centara Ceysand

A stay at Centara Ceysands starts with a short boat journey across the lagoon to a resort located on a pretty peninsular. This wonderfully exotic resort is peppered with palm trees and makes the very most of the enchanting Indian Ocean and Bentota River views.

Morocco Morocco bursts into life in March. The almond blossoms decorate the hillsides of the middle Atlas, and Marrakech starts to come alive after the shortest of winters. Combine a city stay with time in the mountains before enjoying the coastal pleasures of Agadir or Essaouira.

Villa Des Orangers

Imagine a palace protected by one hundred-year-old walls and flooded with light, where the silence is broken only by the sound of trickling fountains in the shade of the orange trees

Kasbah Angour

In a dramatic setting, just a 30 minute drive from Marrakech, Kasbah Angour nestles in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains and boasts magnificent views over the mountains, river valley and nearby villages

Palais Sebban

Centrally located in the Medina, this beautifully restored riad opens its doors to privileged guests. Try your hand at authentic Moroccon cuisine with a cooking class with the Chef.
