Highlight of the trip

The stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site of Borobudur on Java is a colossal temple complex and one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world; stroll amongst its temples and 500 or so Buddha statues and climb to the top for magical views.

Day 1– Flying from the UK to Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Yogyakarta.

Day 2 – Arrival into Yogyakarta

Be met by your private, English-speaking guide at Yogyakarta airport on Java and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Stay at Plataran Heritage Borobudur, Yogyakarta for 3 nights on a mixed board basis.

Day 3 – Yogyakarta 

A morning’s guided tour takes in the 18th century Sultan’s Palace, also known as Kraton and a fine example of Javanese architecture, the adjacent Taman Sari, a water palace and garden built for the sultan’s harem and Yogayakarta’s bustling Beringharjo Traditional Market dating back to the 18th century. Here you will find an excellent selection of batiks, sarongs, keris and antiques. In the afternoon explore the Hindu temples of Prambanan. Dating back to the 9th century and UNESCO-listed this collection of over 200 temples is dedicated to the Hindu trinity; Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. In the evening there is an option* to watch a Ramayana Ballet performance followed by a sumptuous dinner.

Day 4 – Yogyakarta 

Depart in the morning for the drive to the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site of BorobudurThis colossal temple complex it is the largest single Buddhist monument in the world. Built in the 8th and 9th century its setting is magical. Follow this with a visit to the nearby Mendut and Pawon temples. Stop for lunch before boarding a horse cart for a ride through Candirejo village for a glimpse into rural life.

Day 5 – Yogyakarta to Ubud 

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Bali, where you will be met by your English-speaking guide and taken to your hotel, with the rest of the day at leisure. Stay at Alila Ubud for 2 nights on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 6 – Ubud 

A full day excursion starting with a visit to the largest flower market in Bali. Journey on to one of Bali’s major landmarks, the Ulun Danu Temple set on the edge of Lake Bratan. Continue on to a working flower farmand stop for picturesque views across the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan en route to a traditional restaurant for a lunch of Indonesian and Balinese dishes and magnificent panoramic views (lunch payable locally).

Day 7 – Ubud to Jimbaran 

Today’s excursion of temples includes a visit to the huge royal family temple of Taman Ayun, the sacred megalithic temple of Alas Kedaton set in a forest inhabited by mischievous monkeys and hundreds of large batsand finally Bali’s most photographed temple, the iconic 16th century Tanah Lot precariously perched on a wave-lashed rock. Journey on to the seaside town of Jimbaran for a further three nights. Stay at Keraton Jimbaran Resort for 3 nights on a bed & breakfast basis.

Day 8 – Jimbaran 

Today you are free to relax and explore the seaside town of Jimbaran at your leisure; spend the day on the beach, visit the local fish market and dine on tasty seafood.

Day 9 – Jimbaran 

A day at leisure and independent exploration.

Day 10 – Return to the UK 

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.

  • Daily tour durations vary between 1 & 8 hours and do not take into account the driving time between your hotel and start of the tour
  • We recommend travelling light with no more than one piece of hold luggage and a day bag
  • The flight from the UK Yogyakarta is not direct and takes a minimum of 23 hours
