Indonesia Sea Cruise

Fill your days with snorkelling, trekking, iconic wildlife encounters and tropical island exploration as you sail, in a motorised seven-sail rig wooden pinisi ship, between Bali and Komodo along Indonesia’s Ring of Fire, and across the famous Wallace Line, the deep-sea boundary that separates Asia’s biological system from that of Australia.

Enjoy an unforgettable journey across the seas and islands of Indonesia aboard a traditional 35-metre, pinisi style, wooden schooner with a rig of seven sales and a motor. There are just six cabins, with a maximum capacity of 12 adults and 2 children. Constructed of natural woods, with classic décor, the stylish cabins are bright and inviting with double or twin berths, individually controlled AC and ensuite bathrooms.

Highlight of the trip

The stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site of Borobudur on Java is a colossal temple complex and one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world. Stroll amongst its temples and 500 or so Buddha statues and climb to the top to enjoy splendid views.

Hotel Features

Day 1 – Bali

Enjoy a tour starting in South Bali, visiting water palaces and ancient villages, seeing rice terraces, jungles and volcanic peaks. Arrive late afternoon in East Bali to swim and snorkel at your beachside hotel. Dine on some of Bali’s freshest cuisine. Overnight at your hotel in the shadow of Mount Agung.

Day 2 – Bali to Lombok

After sunrise join your ship to learn about coral reef conservation projects. After lunch set sail across the famous Wallace Line, and a first opportunity to snorkel above the incredibly diverse and beautiful coral reefs located to the east.

Day 3 – Lombok to Sumbawa

Breakfast under the gaze of Lombok’s towering Mount Rinjani, the largest volcanic peak in Indonesia, and spend the morning swimming, snorkelling and exploring. Visit a village of the famous Bajao sea travellers of Southeast Asia, and see how their lives are lived on, and close to, the water.

Day 4 – Sumbawa to Satonda Island

A chance to swim with protected whale sharks off the northern coast of Sumbawa: one of the largest creatures of the ocean, whale sharks are under constant threat owing to the value of their fins. Later swim, snorkel, kayak and paddle board in the volcanic crater lake on Satonda Island. Enjoy sunset cocktails and observe giant fruit bats on their nocturnal foraging missions.

Day 5 – Santonda Island to Komodo

Enjoy an island visit to see traditional shipwrights at their craft. Snorkel amid colourful, vibrant coral, and above geothermal volcanic fissures. Sail to a deserted white sand beach. Explore coral gardens, swim, paddle, kayak and laze away the day before sunset cocktails.

Day 6 – Komodo National Park

Enjoy a morning of sea-based activities in the most northerly part of Komodo National Park: drift snorkel over the reef, kayak and paddle board. Swim with manta rays and hover above these giant and noble beasts for as long as you like. Spend the late afternoon on an isolated sandbar, enjoy snorkelling, swimming, and relaxing with cool drinks on the sand.

Day 7 – Rinca Island

Visit Rinca Island and go on a morning trek in search of the ancient Komodo dragon, the world’s largest lizard. See monkeys, dear, pigs, buffalo, and myriad birds on a trek through the forests and savannahs of this large island. Snorkel close to sea turtles above the technicolor reef below. Enjoy Indonesian hospitality as the crew host a farewell evening beach barbecue.

Day 8 – Bajo, East Nusa Tengarra to Bali

Sail into the harbour at Bajo, on the island of East Nusa Tengara, as you breakfast. Visit a local village to sample a highly potent aniseed spirit, arak, and try some traditional dancing. Return to the boat to enjoy lunch before your transfer to Labuan Bajo airport for your onward flight to Bali.

This Indonesia Sea Cruise operates on an almost weekly basis from April to September and also sails in the reverse direction from Labaun Bajo to Bali.
