Family Tour of Kenya

An unforgettable, exciting nine day safari adventure suitable for the whole family in two of Kenya’s private wildlife conservancies, exploring the wilderness and observing wildlife at close range without encroaching on their space. Spend two nights in the capital, Nairobi followed by three nights in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the Laikipia National Reserve where you can observe not only the wildlife but also the rancher’s way of life. A further three nights are spent at the Mara North Conservancy bordering the famous Maasai Mara Reserve. There are shared game drives and escorted bush walks, plus numerous hands-on activities for children.

Highlight of the trip

Exploring the bush on foot together with an expert guide and a ranger is an exhilarating experience. A night time game drive offers a chance to observe lesser seen nocturnal species such as aardvark, bath-eared fox, hyena, serval and striped polecat.

Day 1– Flying from the UK to Nairobi, Kenya

Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Nairobi.

Day 2 – Arrival into Nairobi  

Early morning arrival. Be met by our English-speaking representative/driver-guide at Nairobi airport and transferred to your hotel, Hemingways Nairobi. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World this plantation-style boutique hotel boasts magnificent views of the nearby Ngong Hills. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Stay at Hemingways Nairobi for 2 nights with breakfast included on Day 3.

Day 3 – Nairobi  

Spend the day relaxing at the hotel or choose an optional activity* including getting a close-up view of the endangered giraffes at the Giraffe Centre or visiting the nearby David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust where orphaned elephants and rhinos are rehabilitated for release back into the wild. There is also the Karen Blixen Museum or an early morning game drive in the Nairobi National Park set within the city. Stay at Hemingways Nairobi.

Day 4– Nairobi to Laikipia   

After breakfast transfer to Nairobi’s Wilson airport for your light aircraft flight to the Nanyuki airstrip in Laikipia National Reserve. On arrival enjoy a short game drive en route to the camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Kicheche Laikipia is an eco award-winning small and luxurious tented camp nestling in the indigenous forest overlooking a waterhole at the foot of Mount Kenya. Stay at Kicheche Laikipia Camp for 3 nights on a full board basis.

Day 5-6 – Laikipia 

Not only is Ol Pejeta Conservancy West Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary it is also home to a myriad of wildlife including elephant, lion, cheetah and wild dog amongst others. You will be able to enjoy shared game viewing drives including night time drives, escorted bush walks, canoeing (12+) and there are various activities for children between 6 and 14 yearsunder supervision; learn to identify animal footprints, bones, plants and leaves, catch and release butterflies and insects on camp walks, learn to make bows and arrowsspear launching, and how to start a fire without matches. There are various optional activitiessuch as a visit to the Morani Centre and the endangered species enclosure with the world’s last remaining Northern White Rhino, the chimpanzee sanctuary, or visit to meet the anti-poaching bloodhounds (some at additional charge and with age limits).

Day 7 – Laikipia to Mara North Conservancy 

Leave after breakfast and transfer to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Mara North airstrip and the North Mara Conservancy. Spend the next three nights at the Kicheche Mara Camp, a classic tented camp in a prime wildlife area.

Day 8-9 – Mara North Conservancy  

Mara North Conservancy is a beautiful private wilderness and home to a spectacular array of plants, reptiles, birds and mammals, including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard and cheetah as well as a large number of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and other migratory wildlife. The conservancy borders Maasai Mara National Reserve and is vital for sustaining the famous Serengeti wildebeest migrations and the threatened African wild dog and black rhino. Enjoy escorted bush walks and a range of shared game drives in 6-8 seater safari land cruisers, with children between 6 and 14 years having a choice of additional fun, hands-on and educational activities.

Day 10 – Return to the UK 

Leave after breakfast for the internal flight from Mara North airstrip to Nairobi’s Wilson airport and onward transfer to Nairobi’s international airport for your return flight to the UK.
