Highlight of the trip

Game drive through Kruger National Park in search of the big five as well as cheetah, giraffe, hippo and zebra, and if you’re lucky, the elusive African wild cat and the Caracal, a type of lynx with distinctive black-tufted ears.

Day 1– Johannesburg

Arrive into Johannesburg. Be met by our English-speaking representative. At leisure in the hotel. Stay at Protea Hotel Wanderers for 1 night.

Day 2 – Johannesburg to Mpumalanga

Travel to Mpumalanga province. Drop down to the lush region of the Lowveld. Visit Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels and God’s Window. Optional al fresco Sabie River dining. Stay at Hippo Hollow Country Estate for 2 nights.

Day 3 Mpumalanga

A morning safari in Kruger National Park with an option to travel by open vehicle. Spot iconic species: lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino, cheetah, giraffe, hippo and zebra. Later, at leisure, or optional African dinner with traditional storytelling. Overnight Mpumalanga.

Day 4 Mpumalanga to Eswatini (Swaziland)

See the independent kingdom of Eswatini, then travel to the Ezulwini Valley. Stay at Lugogo Sun, Eswatini for 1 night.

Day 5 Eswatini to St Lucia

Travel the 350km into Zululand and KwaZulu-Natal. Enjoy an optional afternoon safari in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve. Stay at Anew Hotel Hluhluwe for 1 night.

Day 6 – St Lucia to Durban

An optional morning boat cruise on Lake St Lucia, before passing traditional Zulu homesteads to Durban and its golden beaches. Stay at Protea Hotel Umhlanga Ridge for 1 night.

Day 7 & 8 – Durban to Drakensberg  

Head to the Southern Drakensberg Mountains and visit Howick Falls. Enjoy the rest of the day and following day at leisure. Optional 4×4 visit to the spectacular Sani Pass, Lesotho, on Day 8. Stay at Drakensberg Gardens Hotel for 2 nights.

Day 9 – Drakensberg to Eastern Cape Coast

Journey 520km to the Eastern Cape Coast via Nelson Mandela’s birthplace and house. Stay at Crawford’s Beach Lodge for 1 night.

Day 10 – Eastern Cape Coast to Tsitsikamma

After a morning at leisure on the beach or birdwatching, start the 510km journey to Tsitsikamma Forest. Stay at Tsitsikamma Village Inn for 1 night.

Day 11 Tsitsikamma to Knysna

Visit the enchanting Garden of Eden, in the lush Knysna Forest, and see primates roaming freely at Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary. Enjoy the views from Knysna’s Eastern Head and the pretty seaside resort of Brenton on Sea.

Day 12 – Knysna to Oudtshoorn and Mossel Bay 

Travel via the stunning Outeniqua Pass to an ostrich farm and the famous Cango Caves. Stay at Diaz Hotel & Resort Mossel Bay for 1 night.

Day 13 & 14 – Mossel Bay to Cape Town

Travel to Cape Town via Albertinia and the Huguenot Tunnel. Rest of the day, and following day, at leisure in Cape Town. Optional wine tours or visit Cape Town and Table Mountain. Stay at Sunsquare Cape Town Gardens for 2 nights.

Day 15  – Return 

Transfer to the airport for your return flight.
