Explore Barbados

If your vision of paradise is gentle turquoise waters lapping onto pink and white powdery sands, then welcome to Barbados! Roving from coastlines of untamed rugged beauty, to some of the most sophisticated seafront resorts in the Caribbean, Barbados brings you a little bit of everything. And it's not just the natural beauty of the island that creates one-of-a-kind holidays. An exciting food scene, vibrant entertainment, water sports galore and a UNESCO World Heritage capital all make Barbados unlike anywhere else. What's more, we've scoured the island for the absolute best places to stay for your trip, whether you're looking for a prestigious resort frequented by the A-listers, or a tranquil hideaway for honeymooning.

The allure of Barbados rests in its ability to bring together all the things you could want in a holiday destination. The beaches are some of the best in the world, and are so plentiful that you can find the perfect one for you. Traversing from Brownes Beach with its calm waters and incredible opportunities to snorkel amid several shipwrecks, to the famous Crane Beach with its pink sand and surf-ready stretch of ocean, there's a beach for all moods and tastes in Barbados.

Although beach life is often the initial appeal of Barbados, the lasting memories are created in everything else the island offers. In a day, you could easily play a round of golf at an acclaimed club, try your hand at one of many water sports or traverse below the sea in a diving suit or submarine, and visit blooming botanical gardens. Or you could catch some sun on the beach, shop in designer stores and craft markets, and potter around Bridgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site brimming with the magic of history. And whatever you do, you won't get far without soaking up the spirit of one of the island's many calypso bands. Perhaps even with a rum cocktail in one hand! Since rum originated in Barbados, there is no shortage of shops to find your personal favourite.

If you consider yourself to be a bit of a foodie, you'll no doubt be enticed to Barbados by the island's Bajan cuisine, which brings together African, British, Creole, Indian, Irish and Portuguese influences. There is quite honestly nothing else quite like it in the world, and you have to taste it to believe how the eclectic flavours meld together. Locally caught fish and seafood can be found in abundance on the menus in Barbados, including many dishes that are prepared with flying fish the national emblem of Barbados. Whether you taste Bajan cuisine in a sun-scorched beach café, or in one of the many fine dining establishments across the island, you are in for a culinary treat. The British have also left some of their traditions behind on the island, so you might even find yourself tucking into afternoon tea before watching a cricket or bowls match in Barbados too!

When to visit
Barbados is an island that you can visit enjoyably any time of the year. Many opt for the driest season, which runs from mid-December to mid-April.
