  • Overview

Gibbs Beach, or Gibbes Beach, nestles between Gibbs Bay and Mullins Beach on the stunning west coast of Barbados, and on the borders of the parishes of Saint Peter and Saint James. The beach here is widely regarded as one of the most tranquil beaches on the island. The calm water, and its clarity, make it great for swimming and snorkelling and there is a small selection of watersports including water skiing and wave running. It seems likely that the bay and the beach here are named after Sir Philip Gibbes, a baronet and plantation owner born into a life of colonial privilege in St James in 1731 and who died in 1815 and was interred in the grounds of Saint James Church, Barbados. For shops, restaurant and bars, Holetown is to the south and Speightstown just to the north.
