Explore Ubud

Located in the uplands of Bali, the town of Ubud is viewed by many as the island's cultural heart. An area of spiritual healing, the food, shopping and cultural activities promote mental and physical well-being.

Encircled by lush forests and rice paddies, the town is a thriving tourist destination integrating modern luxuries with Bali's ancient traditions. Home to a variety of eateries serving delicious culinary creations, soul nourishing cuisine can be found in abundance with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available. For those who love their meat, many restaurants boast the best suckling pig, babi guling and finest duck, bebek. Visitors can also stock up on souvenirs, with colourful handmade items decorating store fronts and displaying the island's art in all its various forms.

Ubud is the perfect stepping off point to explore an array of temples and spiritual locations. Legs should be covered when visiting temples: sarongs are a popular solution. Visit the Pura Taman Saraswati, Water Palace, for lotus flowers and fantastic architectural design, the Pura Dalem Agung Padangtegal, Temple of Death, in the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, and discover beautiful carvings in Goa Gajah, Elephant Cave.

Close to its centre, Ubud's Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary promotes the natural harmony of nature and religion, with the added attraction of a large number of Balinese long-tailed monkeys. A conservation area, the forest is used to promote harmonious relationships between humans, humans and the environment, and humans and the Supreme God.

The town's temperature remains largely constant throughout the year, varying little from mid to high twenties. To find cooler climes, visitors can journey up the nearby volcanos and admire the crater lakes, rice paddies and tea plantations carved into the mountain side, along with magnificent vistas.
