• Dolomites & South Tyrol
  • Overview

The province of Trentino boasts stunning scenery with beautiful alpine lakes and waterfalls, fish-rich rivers and streams, delightful meadows and high pastures, enchanted valleys rich in wildlife, and historical towns and pretty hamlets; all set against the majestic, jagged awe-inspiring peaks of the UNESCO-protected Dolomites.

In the north of Italy and stretching from Lake Garda to the Dolomites in the South Tyrol, the province of Trentino boasts four out of the nine UNESCO-listed sites in the Dolomites, all offering diverse and unique scenery; the Brenta Dolomites, the Latemar-Catinaccio, the Marmolada and the Pale di San Martino. The area offers limitless outdoor adventures, boasts wonderful scenery including three nature parks rich in rare flora and fauna, and is home to around 300 lakes as well as fantastic waterfalls, streams and rivers. For the culturally minded there are numerous churches, sanctuaries and hermitages, historic castles, fortresses and world-class museums to discover.

    Outdoor activities

A paradise for hikers and ramblers Trentino offers a myriad of paths for scenic alpine walks for all levels, and with over 400km of cycleways, eight bike parks and numerous mountain bike trails there is plenty of ground for cyclists to cover. Further outdoor pursuits include two golf courses, opportunities for horse riding and lakes ideal for swimming, canoeing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.

    Local Cuisine

Authentic flavours, rural traditions and artisan knowledge lies at the heart of the regional culinary delights and delicious produce. There are tasty cured meats such as mortandella, ciuiga sausage and carne salada, whilst the rivers and lakes are teeming with fish that is usually served freshly prepared, or if preferred, smoked or cured using age-old artisan methods. The healthy dairy herds on the mountain pastures produce fresh milk for fantastic cheeses such as Puzzone di Moena and Trentingrana DOP, Val di Gresta is home to organic vegetable gardens, Sant’Orsola supplies much of Europe with berries, and fruity and light extra virgin olive oil hails from Lake Garda. Additionally, the area is home to six Michelin star restaurants, three of which can be found in Madonna di Campiglio.
