    The east coast of Mauritius is worlds away from busier resorts and beaches. Known as the wild coast owing to its wonderfully untouched landscape and undeveloped resorts. It is also the windiest coast and attracts windsurfers those who wish to cool off in the height of summer. The east coast is scattered with quaint fishing villages offering a taste of traditional, laid-back Mauritian life. Here there are popular local markets. One of the most notable is Trou d'Eau Douce which was founded by the Dutch and gives a real a taste of authentic island life.

    Those looking for elegant and exclusive resorts should find Belle Mare to their liking, with blissful white sand with a small scattering of luxury hotels.

    For the active and adventurous side of Mauritius, Lion Mountain stands tall over the South East Coast and is an entire day's hike. With various routes up to the top the views of Vieux Grand Port and beyond are well worth it. North of Lion Mountain lies The Bambou Mountains, dramatic and beautiful and perfect for hiking, and kayaking in the sea below.
