• Luxury Vieux Fort Holidays
  • Overview

Found on an idyllic stretch of land in the southernmost tip of St Lucia, Vieux Fort is characterised by its particularly panoramic coastline, water sports and sugar plantation history.

St Lucia is known for being an island on the boundary of the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, and Vieux Fort occupies a prized position where the sea and ocean meet. The best place to see this is from the Moule à Chique Peninsula and the lighthouse here, which marks a spot close to the bottom of St Lucia. As well as splendid views of the turquoise waters, the meeting of sea and ocean also makes Vieux Fort an esteemed locality for non-motorised water sports, particularly windsurfing, kitesurfing , stand up paddle boarding and kayaking.

The main beach in Vieux Fort is Anse des Sables Beach, also known as Sandy Beach. Around a mile long, the beach is a hive of activity for water sports. The beach also has a natural, rugged beauty for those who enjoy beach walks and relaxation. Less than a mile out to sea from the beach are the Maria Islands, with one larger and one smaller island. Both are dedicated nature reserves with more than 120 species of flora and fauna, as well as nesting sites for migratory birds from Africa. It’s even possible to go on a guided tour of the islands, which often includes the opportunity to snorkel in the surrounding coral reefs too.

Vieux Fort town itself is home to an indulgent variety of seafood and Caribbean restaurants and a quaint array of brightly coloured buildings. Elsewhere in the region of Vieux Fort, it’s possible to tour former sugar plantations and hike in the rainforest at the Edmund Forest Reserve, home to abundant tropical flowers, trees and rare birds. This includes the bright blue and green St Lucia parrot, known locally as the ‘Jacquot’ parrot.

A region of water sports and magnificent nature, Vieux Fort offers distinctive St Lucia holidays unlike anywhere else in the world.
