Serengeti National Park lies in the north and is home to the year-round Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra. July to September is a popular time to witness this event. This is the big-game and predator region of Tanzania underscored by the prodigious population of wildlife around the Ngorongoro Crater and along the shores of Lake Manyara, known for tree-climbing lions. Also in the north, Tarangire is famous of its high concentration of elephants.

Day 1: Fly from the UK to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Be met by our English-speaking representative at Kilimanjaro Airport and be transferred to your hotel in Arusha. Resting at the foot of Mount Meru, the sprawling city of Arusha, known as the safari capital of northern Tanzania, serves as an excellent base from which to explore the remarkably scenic surrounding area.

Stay at Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge, Arusha, on a bed & breakfast basis for 1 night.

Vibrant gardens, Spa and swimming pool, are features of this lodge which is located in the middle of a verdant coffee plantation. Rooms are cosy and comfortable, with inviting in-room log fire, en-suite bathroom with shower and bath, and a veranda overlooking the aromatic coffee garden. There’s a café bistro, restaurant and boutiques offering arts and crafts, jewellery, clothing, gourmet coffee and traditional Swahili food.

Day 2: Arusha to Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast at your hotel, leave for Lake Manyara National Park arriving at your lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon go for a game drive to see the park’s wildlife. This small park is home to surprising biodiversity and features a magnificent landscape of acacia woodlands, forests, baobab strewn cliffs, algae-streaked hot springs, swamps and the lake itself.

The park supports over 400 species of bird and the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world. Other species to spot include giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, warthog, the Cape clawless otter, and the Egyptian mongoose. Don’t miss the opportunity to see thousands of flamingos on the lake, the renowned tree-climbing lions, and large families of elephants strolling through the forest.

 

Stay at Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge, Lake Manyara National Park, on a full board basis for 2 nights.

Lake Manyara Kilimamoja Lodge sits on the rim of the Great African Rift Valley and affords stunning views of Lake Manyara, Mount Meru and on a clear day, Mount Kilimanjaro.  With lush green gardens and over 130 species of bird, the outdoors firepit is the place to watch the setting sun and listen to the early evening birdsong. Each suite has its own spacious private veranda and viewing deck.  En-suite bathrooms feature slipper baths with views over the highlands, and inside and outside showers. 

Day 3 – Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast take a village walk for a taste of traditional culture with visits to local farms, a kindergarten and local market. Return to your lodge for a game drive and late lunch. The rest of your day is at leisure to enjoy the surroundings and facilities of the lodge. 

Day 4 – Lake Manyara National Park to Lake Eyasi

After breakfast travel to Lake Eyasi. Tucked between the Kidero Mountains in the south and the Eyasi Escarpment to the north, Lake Eyasi is situated in a remote, arid landscape just south of Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. This seasonal lake features dry salt beds and is home to a variety of birdlife including flamingos and pelicans. Numerous excellent walking trails exist within the surroundings of woodlands, forests and ancient baobabs. You’ll arrive in time for lunch, and in the afternoon will have the opportunity to learn about local cultures by visiting the pastoralist Detoga tribe. Other activities include bird watching, hiking, walking safaris, and enjoying spectacular views. Don’t miss the chance to visit the nearby enthralling Oldeani Mountain, the atmospheric swampy valley area of Yaeda, and the spectacular Serengeti.

Stay at Kisima Ngeda Camp, Lake Eyasi, on a full board basis for 2 nights.

Set within a forest of palm and fever trees, Kisima Ngeda camp offers relaxation in a remote and beautiful setting overlooking Lake Eyasi. There are natural springs, and a rocky granite hill forms a dramatic backdrop to the camp. The main camp features beautiful wooden floors and palm-thatch roofs. The bar and lounge area, with cosy nooks, is the perfect place to relax before dining with an expansive view of the lake. Eight palm-thatched tented chalets on wooden decks blend into the forest. In each, a spacious furnished veranda leads to the bedroom, which features a king-size bed and a comfy armchair.  Behind the living area is the en-suite bathroom with walk-in shower. Staff will heat water for your shower through a traditional Tanganyika boiler using palm fronds. 

Day 5 – Lake Eyasi

Enjoy a full day game drive of the Serengeti Park After an early morning visit to the Hadzabe tribe, take a late breakfast at camp, followed by a full day at leisure. 

Day 6 – Lake Eyasi to Eastern Serengeti 

After breakfast, leave for the rich acacia-dotted plains of the Eastern Serengeti where, after lunch, you’ll enjoy and afternoon game drive.  The Eastern Serengeti is home to abundant wildlife, and visitors flock here to view the world-renowned wildebeest migration. Some of the best game-viewing can be enjoyed from Lobo on the eastern edge of the Serengeti National Park along the Grumeti River. Popular activities include guided walks through the spectacularly scenic terrain of the wild Serengeti, taking a hot air balloon safari, picnics in the bush, and learning about Maasai culture and history. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the world famous Gol Kopjes for the best cheetah viewing in Africa.

Stay at Serengeti Sametu Camp, Eastern Serengeti, on a full board basis for 3 nights.

 

The luxurious suites of Sametu Camp make the very most of the panoramic scenery of the Serengeti. Here resident wildebeest, zebra, antelope, and elephant graze alongside the suites enjoying the safety the lodge has to offer from predatory lions and cheetahs. Enjoy scenic thrills over sundowners and bush meals, or take a balloon safari. Double Tents afford spacious living quarters with en-suite bathroom and separate shower. There’s a furnished sitting area, cosy side chairs and a writing desk. To make the most of the sunset views of the Ngarenyanyuki River, private verandas feature comfortable teak chairs.

 

Days 7 & 8 – Eastern Serengeti

 

Enjoy full day game drives of the Serengeti Park each day.

Day 9  – Eastern Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater 

 

After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Crater for lunch followed by an afternoon at leisure in your new surroundings.  Located in Northern Tanzania, the Ngorongoro Crater is best known for its natural beauty and abundance of diverse wildlife. Surrounded by Tanzania’s highlands, this UNESCO-listed crater is said to be the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Visitors can look forward to spotting the world-renowned Big Five and a host of other wildlife species including large herds of zebra and wildebeest. It is famed as one of Tanzania’s best tourist attractions offering visitors an array of wonderful activities including excellent bird watching, trekking, wildlife viewing, mountain biking and opportunities to visit local Maasai villages and magnificent Olduvai Gorge.

Stay at Ngorongoro Lion’s Paw Camp, Ngorongoro Crater, on a full board basis for 2 nights.

Day 10 – Ngorongoro Crater 

 

After breakfast descend to the crater floor for a full day drive with packed lunch returning to your lodge in the late afternoon. 

Day 11 – Ngorongoro Crater to Tarangire National Park 

 

After breakfast travel to Tarangire National Park for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive. Situated within Tanzania’s spectacular Manyara Region, Tarangire is an awe-inspiring National Park comprised of granite ridges, river valleys, mixed vegetative landscapes, and free-roaming wildlife. During the dry season, Tarangire River is a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland gather and predators follow. Lions are amongst the most commonly spotted animals. Tarangire is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are seen regularly. This expansive area is known for its spectacular baobab trees, its breathtaking views of the Masaai Steppe and the wondrous mountains to the south.

Stay at Maramboi Tented Lodge, Tarangire National Park, on a full board basis for 2 nights.  

 

Maramboi Tented Lodge offers permanent camp facilities and endless vistas of the rolling golden grasslands and palm-lined desert between Tarangire and Manyara Lake. This fascinating area is intrinsically linked to the origins of mankind and focusses on safari walks and game drives. Maramboi boasts spacious suites and tents built onto ample wooden decks.  Superior Suites have a generous space divided into two areas, a living room, where one can enjoy the astonishing views to Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley,  and sleeping area with private bathroom and outdoor shower. Each has a plunge pool.

Day 12 – Tarangire National Park 

 

Full day game drive. 

Day 13 - Return to the UK 

 

 

After breakfast drive to Arusha where you will have lunch before the transfer to Kilimanjaro airport for your return flight to the UK.
