  • Overview

Regarded as one of the most influential cities in the world, New York is a global centre of politics, finance, culture, music, fashion, film, theatre and television and offers world class museums, art galleries, and restaurants with numerous Michelin stars. The shopping’s not too bad either. It’s a cosmopolitan city in the broadest sense of the world. Immigrants from the best part of 200 countries have arrived in New York to enjoy the energy, culture and opportunities that it presents.

Although English is the primary language, there are neighbourhoods where Spanish, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Bengali, Portuguese or Hindi might be the more common linguistic currency. And of course the diversity of these neighbourhoods is reflected in the cuisine.

Located in a huge natural harbour, the long, narrow island, and borough of Manhattan, lies at the heart of New York City, with the Harlem, East and Hudson, Rivers flowing around it and separating it from the other boroughs: The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. There is so much to see: The Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Broadway, Central Park, Wall Street, Chinatown, Lower Manhattan, Grand Central Terminal, the Empire State and Chrysler buildings, the One World Trade Centre and Ground Zero. Even the subway and the yellow cabs are iconic.

Given its familiarity through film, New York has one of the most recognisable skylines in the world, and is widely believed to be the most photographed city on earth.

    Twin-centre Holidays

City breaks to New York can be perfectly combined with a twin-centre stay in Bermuda. After a few days shopping and seeing the sights of the Big Apple why not hop on a short flight across to Bermuda and relax on the glorious pink sandy beaches.
