Not for nothing is Nha Trang known as the Riviera of the South China Sea: its 6km stretch of gorgeous sands, turquoise waters and palm-shaded promenade dotted with bars and restaurants, making this a popular beach resort. Think the Cote d’Azur with a Vietnamese flavour.
Located on the coast of South-Central Vietnam, Nha Trang’s high-rise heart has an international feel, but more traditional attractions are never far away. Most striking are the Po Nagar Cham Towers, set on the banks of the Cai River just north of the city centre. Built between the 7th and 12th centuries, they are still used for worship by the Cham people. Nearer still is Long Son Pagoda, a working monastery topped with a dazzling white statue of Buddha seated on a Lotus throne.
Further afield are the Hon Khoi Salt Fields, an hour’s drive away. Blazing white, they seem like a step back in time, with workers shouldering heavy baskets as they harvest salt from the shallows.
