In a central location between Dam and Rembrandt Square, the imposing NH Collection Amsterdam Doelen sits on the banks of the Amstel river, and, dating back to the 17th century, is Amsterdam’s oldest hotel. It has over the centuries played host to many an illustrious guest, from Empress Elisabeth of Austria to the Beatles and also has connections to Rembrandt. Renovated in 2016 the hotel has been stylishly updated and elegantly decorated in classic red, gold and cream with some of the well-appointed, modern and sleek guest rooms and suites boasting views of the canal. Gorgeous canal views can also be enjoyed over a buffet breakfast in the light-filled restaurant each morning and in addition guests have complimentary use of the hotel’s gym and there are museums, shopping and many of the city’s iconic sights within an easy stroll.
Rembrandt’s painting The Night Watch was once on display within the walls of this hotel in the 17th century; today a reproduction of the painting hangs in the Rembrandt suite.
