Close to the famous fortified city of Galle, yet occupying a pristine beachfront position, The Fortress’ architectural style is inspired by the historical influences of the Dutch, Portuguese and British. There is splendour in its incredible columns and tall ceilings, and the vast inner courtyard, home to tranquil gardens, a yoga pavilion and spa, is a further delight. The Fortress is stately, grand and elegant.

All fifty-three of the suites and guest rooms are designed to provide nothing but the best, and a host of amenities add comfort and convenience in a contemporary and airy style. Views are of the garden or ocean with some room types having an indoor plunge pool. Suites have ocean views and the Residence Suite has a private outdoor infinity pool.

Cuisine is served in three restaurants, with menus that make the very best of the local seafood, and a range of local and international delicacies. A charming lounge serves a delectable selection of teas and gives visitors the opportunity to watch a tea ceremony. The culinary offering at The Fortress also includes The Fortress Stilt Fisherman Indulgence: one of the most expensive desserts in the world. With a design inspired by local stilt fishing practices, the dessert comes with an 80-carat aquamarine stone that is said to bestow its owner with happiness and courage.

Wellness is treated with great reverence here. The spa offers carefully curated signature treatments, expert Ayurvedic therapies and a wide range of water therapy. Participate in relaxing yoga classes in the courtyard pavilion and enjoy the ambiance of the huge beach-front pool.

Nearby the resort, guests can spend a day visiting the city of Galle, go whale or bird watching, and take part in a range of water sports. The Fortress also has a turtle conservation project in which guests are welcome to get involved.
