Venture in to the tropical forest of the Arenal Volcano National Park for an easy 2km hike alongside a local guide. Discover a wide variety of flora and fauna as well as impacted craters and lava fields and, on clear days, you can enjoy views of the impressive Arenal Volcano, the Arenal Lake and Tilaran mountain range. After your hike, the Tabacon natural hot springs await; relax in the various pools and their healing mineral waters. Afterwards enjoy dinner (included) at the Tabacon Hot Springs before returning to your hotel.
After breakfast at the hotel you will head for the Hanging Bridges wildlife sanctuary for a leisurely 3km natural history walk through the primary rainforest, guided by a knowledgeable naturalist. Make your way along trails and suspension bridges built in harmony with nature allowing for total immersion in the diverse flora and fauna, with numerous colourful birds, howler monkeys and lizards amongst those most commonly spotted.
Leave Arenal on a 150km, around a 3 hour, drive to Turrialba and your luxury eco-lodge for the next two nights on a full board basis. This unique lodge offers a mere 20 suites and sits deep inside a protected zone on the banks of the scenic Pacuare River and you can choose to arrive by exciting white-water raft, or 4×4 vehicle, from Guapiles, the lodge’s meeting point. The lodge enjoys the most perfect setting for exploring the rainforest and experiencing the jaw-dropping beauty of the area’s natural scenery through a variety of excursions shared with other guests staying here. Start the day with a delicious breakfast and choose the day’s programme. There is a choice of eight excursions including a canyoning tour, a zipline adventure through the tree canopy, a challenging hike to meet an indigenous Cabecar family in the Talamanca Mountains to learn about their culture, as well as a very challenging trek to a hidden waterfall along an ancient trail. You can also opt for something a bit easier with a sustainable tour of the lodge, a visit to a rural village or a walk with a naturalist guide learning about the exotic birds and endemic flora in the protected reserve.
After rafting out, (4×4) of Pacuare Lodge transfer to San Jose, Costa Rica’s capital. On arrival check in to your hotel and you can spend the rest of the day independently exploring the city and its history and culture. Don’t miss the Central Market for delicious Costa Rican food and the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum and National Museum are worth a stop. Stay at Hotel Grano de Oro on bed and breakfast.
Following breakfast head to the airport for your 50 minute internal flight to the Osa Peninsula, considered one of the most biodiverse places in the world. On arrival you will be met and escorted on a picturesque 30 minute boat ride to your beachfront boutique hotel set in a private rainforest in the Piedras Blancas National Park. Your home for three nights this eco-luxury lodge is an intimate retreat in harmony with its magnificent natural surroundings and offers personalised service, comfortable accommodation and gourmet dining. You can choose to spend your time relaxing, making use of the facilities at the lodge or choose an optional excursion. There is an outdoor pool, a wellness spa and complimentary use of kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and snorkelling equipment. Make your way along the beautiful coastline in a kayak or on a stand up paddle board and encounter plenty of fish, manta rays, turtles and dolphins in the crystal clear waters, or go snorkelling; the helpful staff will point out the best places. After breakfast transfer to the airstrip for your internal flight to San José airport and your overnight return flight to the UK arriving the following day.
