Depart the UK on an overnight flight to Johannesburg Airport
Day 2 – UK to Johannesburg
Early morning arrival. Be met by your English-speaking representative and transferred to your hotel in Johannesburg. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Stay at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel & Spa for 1 night.
Wake for an early breakfast before setting off for White River. Enjoy the spectacular scenery as you drive along the Panorama Route including the wonderful 26km long Blyde River Canyon. Stop for a visit at the impressive rock features known as Bourke’s Luck Potholes and at God’s Window, a viewing point on the Drakensberg escarpment offering the most beautiful vistas of the panoramic Lowveld more than 900m below and in the distance, Kruger National Park. Depart for the Mjejane Game Reserve for a game-rich safari experience. Leave the game reserve and travel to Eswatini (Swaziland), an independent kingdom within the borders of South Africa and renowned for its scenery, wilderness reserves, crafts and colourful indigenous culture. This morning continue south through Eswatini before re-entering South Africa and continue on to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park in KwaZulu-Natal for your stay at a lodge in the Kuleni Game Reserve. On arrival enjoy an afternoon game drive in an open safari vehicle with an experienced game ranger. Board a luxury passenger ferry for a two hour cruise along the St Lucia Estuary in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site. After breakfast, transfer to Durban airport for the short southward flight to Port Elizabeth where you will be met by your English-speaking guide for the drive along South Africa’s Garden Route to Knysna. Leave Knysna and travel via the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo area. Oudtshoorn, known as the Ostrich Capital of the World, is the centre of the ostrich farming industry. Visit an ostrich farm for a guided tour and a light lunch before heading to the beautiful Cango Caves, an enchanting subterranean world of vast limestone caverns, created over millions of years. Your stay in Oudtshoorn is in an elegant and carefully renovated mid 19th century homestead with a lovely rose garden, a pool, restaurant, cosy pub and several lounges for relaxing. There is an option* of a Meerkat safari at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge this morning; rise early to see the Meerkats emerge from their burrows at the break of dawn (weather dependent). Return to the hotel for breakfast, before travelling through the Klein Karoo area to the picturesque spa town of Montagu and onwards to the small town of Franschhoek with its Dutch architecture and French Huguenots heritage. Franschhoek is known as South Africa’s gastronomic capital, and as well as high-end boutiques and an array of art galleries, its main street is filled with fine dining restaurants. After breakfast head for a hop-on hop-off tour in the vintage style, open-air Wine Tram for a unique and leisurely ride through beautiful vineyards, mountain scenery and wine estates in the French corner of the Winelands, stopping at some of South Africa’s oldest and most distinguished wine estates. Afterwards depart for Camps Bay, an affluent suburb of Cape Town with s fine white sand beach and fantastic views of the Twelve Apostles mountain range in addition to trendy cafés and gourmet beachfront restaurants, many specialising in excellent seafood. Check in to your luxury boutique hotel, a hidden gem and peaceful oasis set on a lush green nature reserve with a beach a five minute stroll away. Spend the day on the beautiful beach or for something a bit more active, there is a little known trail, the Pipe Rack, that starts at the base of Table Mountain and winds its way along the course of an old water pipeline for about 6km to Camps Bay, or make the trip to the Camps Bay African Market to shop for traditional crafts.
After breakfast enjoy some last minute shopping or sightseeing if there is time before the transfer to the airport and your return flight to the UK. Remove Breakfast included.
