This often-overlooked national park is quieter than the more renowned Serengeti and Ngorongoro. You can expect to see wildebeest and zebra, waterbuck, giraffe and baboon and, home to more than 500 species of birds it is a haven for the bird enthusiast. The park’s swamps attract the largest selection of breeding birds anywhere in the world and the Tarangire River is a magnet for a large number of animals, especially in dry season as this is the only permanent water for wildlife in this area.

Day 5 – Tarangire to Karatu

After breakfast cross the Rift Valley for Lake Manyara National Park, a small, scenic park best known for its tree-climbing lions, although sightings are becoming rarer. On a half day game drive you might spot herds of elephants, wallowing hippos, shy dik-diks, a large number of baboons and pink flamingos. Continue on to Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to settle in to your luxury manor lodge. Stay at The Manor at Ngorongoro for 2 nights on a full board basis.

Day 6 – Ngorongoro Crater

Today you will explore the breathtakingly beautiful Ngorongoro Crater and its wildlife on a full day, private game drive, with a picnic lunch. The floor of the caldera holds the most densely packed concentration of wildlife in Africa, with over 25,000 large animals including black rhino, wildebeest, zebra, eland and Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelle and it has the densest population of lion. In the rainforests of the crater rim are leopard, elephant, mountain reedbuck, more than 4000 buffalo, spotted hyena, jackal, rare wild dog and cheetah. The legendary annual migration of wildebeest and zebra for which the Serengeti is famous also passes through the Ngorongoro.
