    A variety of resorts

    Zermatt is surrounded by marvellous scenery and encircled by some of Europe’s highest mountains and glaciers. St Moritz’s reputation as a destination of choice for the world’s elite is legendary; it offers emerald forests, silver lakes and proud peaks and Sils and Champfer are delightful, if diminutive, lakeside communities which add further charm to the Engadine Valley. Interlaken, one of the famed resorts of the Bernese Oberland, offers impressive views up to the towering peaks of the Jungfrau massif, and is the starting point for exploring the whole region. Grindelwald lies at the foot of the dramatic ledges of the Eiger's sheer north face. Traffic-free Wengen can only be reached on foot or via rack railway, and Murren, perched on a ledge above the Lauterbrunnen valley, is another traffic-free delight. Beside beautiful expanses of water are medieval Lucerne, with its historic bridges and ramparts, tiny but lovely Weggis, and the vibrant and magnificent Belle Epoque town of Montreux famous for its jazz, chocolate, Freddie Mercury and Charlie Chaplin.
