Join a luxurious eight-day cruise aboard the 130-guest S.S. Venezia. You begin your journey in Venice and then meander along the River Po, uncovering the hidden treasures of Venice and Northern Italy before returning to Venice. The ship is available for departures on Sundays from March through to November.
Fresh from a redesign inspired by Venetian décor, the newly named S.S. La Venezia will launch in 2020 featuring elegantly appointed staterooms, a Serenity River Spa and fitness centre, a lounge with bar, Captain’s Lounge and library for relaxing moments and a sun deck and sky lounge on the upper deck; perfect for watching the passing scenery. Additionally, there will be two dining venues including an Italian kitchen on the upper deck.
Venice & the Gems of Northern Italy
Enjoy history, art and culinary delights on a luxury boutique cruise along the Po River. Starting in Venice this eight-day tour will highlight the best of Venice and its surrounding islands and the hidden treasures of Northern Italy before returning to Venice. There are six days of fully hosted excursions including ‘Choice is Yours’ options, guided ‘Do as the locals do’ and ‘Let’s Go’ programmes and for some cultural enrichment, a Signature Lecture.

Itinerary (subject to changes for 2020):
8 days/7 nights
Day 1 – Sunday: Venice (embark)
You will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your ship to settle in.
Day 2 – Monday: Venice
Spend the morning on a walk with a local expert guide. Amble through the historic Castello district and aside from seeing some of the city’s most iconic sites discover quiet lanes and hidden gems before finishing the tour at the Rialto. After a scenic cruise will take you around the Venetian Lagoon. Spend the afternoon at your leisure and in the evening visit St Mark’s Basilica on a private after-hours lighting ceremony*. A special Captain’s Welcome reception and dinner on board in the evening.
* If religious functions or festivities are taking place in the evening the visit will be made during regular hours.

Day 3 – Tuesday: Chioggia
Sail from Venice through the lagoon and past the Lido before docking in the quintessential fishing village of Chioggia, at times referred to as Little Venice. A choice of excursions today include a bike ride along the lagoon’s beaches, a guided morning walk of Padua and visit to the market, or you can opt to join the local fishermen on board a bragozzo, a small fishing boat, and go shellfish harvesting before a deliciously fresh lunch of steamed mussels.

Day 4 – Wednesday: Polesella (Bologna or Ferrara)
The ship docks in Polesella and you can opt for a culinary trip to Bologna or a discover walk around tranquil and UNESCO-listed Ferrara. You could spend a full day in the culinary capital of Northern Italy, Bologna, learning how to make perfect pasta on a private workshop, enjoy lunch in a celebrated restaurant and join a guided tour of the city’s beautiful historic buildings. Once a centre for arts and artists to rival Florence, the beautifully preserved Ferrara is ringed by medieval walls and filled with Renaissance palazzi; a local expert will introduce the highlights of the city and there will be time to explore further before returning to the ship for lunch.

Day 5 – Thursday: Porto Viro, Chioggia
Return to Chioggia before sailing back to Venice in the evening. Visit Chioggia’s bustling and colourful outdoor market stretching for a kilometre along the Corso del Popolo thoroughfare with busy stalls selling a multitude of day-to-day and eclectic wares.

Day 6 – Friday: Venice Islands (Burano, Mazzorbo, Torcello)
The Venetian lagoon is dotted with a myriad of small islands, and today you will visit three of these hidden treasures. Burano is renowned for its exquisite lace making and brightly painted fishermen’s cottages. Visit a lace-making atelier and enjoy lunch at one of the island’s restaurants before heading to the neighbouring island of Mazzorbo. Here you will visit a wine estate and sample its luscious, golden wine made from a rare, saltwater-tolerant grape. Next is enchanting Torcello, home to the splendid Venetian-Byzantine church Santa Maria dell’ Assunta and you will be able to see its stunning 11th century mosaic on a private, after-hours visit accompanied by an art historian.

Day 7 – Saturday: Venice
Opt for a walking tour of the city for an insight into local life and visit the colourful and lively Rialto market with the ship’s chef to pick up local ingredients. For more of a visual feast join an art historian for an exclusive highlights tour of the Accademia gallery and its fantastic collection of Renaissance paintings. A special Captain’s farewell reception and dinner on board in the evening.

Day 8 – Sunday: Venice (disembark)
Disembark the ship and transfer to the airport for your flight home, or onward by private transfer from the port to one of our luxury city hotels in Venice if you have chosen to extend your trip with a few days in this enchanted city.
