A cluster of inviting white sand beaches and sparkling bays, offering plenty of opportunities for a cooling dip in the Mediterranean, converge on the seaside town of Paguera. Place a clockface on this particular corner of south west Mallorca, and you’ll find Costa de la Calma at three o’clock, Santa Ponsa at five o’clock and Cala Fornells at eleven o’clock. Paguera sits proudly at noon. Private houses, their signature ochre-coloured barrel roof tiles, faded by decades of Balearic sun, co-exist happily alongside unobtrusive resort hotels which have been welcoming predominantly European holidaymakers since the late 1950’s. This stately hotel first opened its doors in 1955 but was the subject of a multi-million pound restoration and refurbishment as recently as 2019. This adult-only property makes an imposing seafront statement, its glorious castellated architecture mixing contemporary décor with exposed stone interiors, archways and columns, as it rises up from within formal gardens and a healthy green canopy of mature trees. The elegant terrace and outdoor pool feature commanding beach and sea views, which can also be enjoyed from a coterie of Balinese beds.

Barefoot Grill, offers casual light lunches and snacks in a beach setting. Olio serves Mediterranean dishes by the pool, while more formal dining is at Seaside Grill, in a splendid setting overlooking the sea, and Gohan where Asian cuisine, sushi and vegetarian dishes take centre stage. Or kick-back at Coco Café. Sundowners are almost de rigueur at the roof terrace’s Sky Bar, where cocktails and live music mix at sunset. Refresh during the day at Sugar Reef beachside bar and Barracuda pool bar and head to the Piano Bar for a chilled evening’s entertainment.
Spa and wellness experience
The Secrets Spa by Natura Bissé offers rejuvenating body and facial treatments, soothing hydrotherapy treatments and relaxing massages. There’s an indoor pool with whirlpool tubs, a sauna, and steam bath. If you’re looking to explore a little further afield, Port d’Andratx, is 10km from the hotel. Formerly a fishing village, it is now a bustling town where bars and restaurants line the water’s edge.
