Italy By Train

Discover Italy by Train

Italy makes a strong case as Europe’s cutting-edge country when it comes to high-speed trains. Rail travel is now faster, more convenient and more relaxing than flying. Trains are frequent, comfortable, punctual and reliable. There’s no check-in, no airport transfers, no baggage restrictions and you arrive in the heart of your chosen city.

With trains linking so many Italian towns and cities of any size, centre to centre, it’s difficult to think of a better way to discover Italy than by rail. Rome to Florence takes just over 90 minutes at speeds of up to 186mph. The scenery between Rome and Venice flies by in under four hours. Rome to Naples can be covered in just over an hour and Rome to Milan is under three hours. There are two high-speed train services. One is the state-owned Trenitalia, and the other is privately owned Italo. As not every city is served by high-speed trains there are intercity trains and regional trains. Although this is sometimes the only choice, it may be the more leisurely way to see Italy.
