  • Overview

Krk, the most accessible and well-developed of all Croatian islands, boasts an international airport at Rijeka, and is linked to the mainland by Krcki Most, a 1.5km long bridge. Krk enjoys miles of secluded, pine fringed white-pebbled coves, a sweeping blue flag sandy beach lapped by crystal clear waters, charming medieval towns, picturesque fishing villages, a rich cultural heritage, various sporting activities, delightful local cuisine and excellent wines; all ensuring its continued popularity with visitors.

One of the most easily accessible Croatian islands, Krk, at 38km long by 20km wide is also the largest with a diverse landscape ranging between low lying and fertile in the northwest to mountainous and occasionally barren in the southeast. Now a delightful holiday destination, Krk claims a rich heritage from its succession of occupiers including the Illyrians and Romans to its fall to the Venetians in 1480.

The historic, partly walled town of Krk dates back to Roman times including a 12th century seafront fortress, Frankopanski Kastel, and boasts an imposing cathedral on the site of the Roman baths and early basilica.
